This expansion has been driven by strong global demand for medical supplies to combat COVID-19 and the exponential growth of e-commerce, with more people working, shopping and seeking entertainment online. The mainland has also been one of the first areas worldwide to make a strong rebound from the pandemic. The air cargo sector appears poised for another boost this year from the massive distribution of COVID-19 vaccines around the world.

New asymptomatic Covid-19 testing centre opens in Aberdeen A new asymptomatic coronavirus testing facility has opened in Aberdeen. Based at Aberdeen University s Butchart Centre on University Road, the centre offers tests to key workers who do not have symptoms of the virus. Results of the tests are often revealed within 90 minutes. Those eligible to access the facility must book their test in advance via the booking portal here. Key workers can be tested twice a week three days apart. Those eligible are: Category 1 - Health and care workers directly supporting Covid-19 response, and associated staff; health and care workers supporting life threatening emergency work, as well as critical primary and community care provision; energy suppliers; staff providing childcare/learning for other category 1 staff.

Two people injured by debris after Boeing 747 suffers engine fire over Netherlands

Dutch Aviation authorities are investigating after a Boeing 747 aircraft suffered an engine fire and scattered debris near Maastricht. According to local police, two people were injured by wreckage in the southern town of Meerssen on Saturday. An elderly woman was hit in the head and had to be treated in hospital, while a child was also reportedly slightly injured and suffered burns when trying to pick up pieces of plane debris from the ground. Several cars and houses were also damaged. Maastricht Aachen Airport said the Boeing 747-400 cargo aircraft suffered an engine fire on its way to New York and was forced to land in Liège.
